The Good News given by the Holy Spirit.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully,
11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.
12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. – 1 Peter 1:10-12

I wait for your salvation, O LORD. – Genesis 49:18

And Hannah prayed and said, “My heart exults in the LORD; my horn is exalted in the LORD. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. – 1 Samuel 2:1

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. – Isaiah 12:2-3

The most amazing thing about the bible and God’s plan to use written scriptures to reveal Himself to man at this time is prophecy. The fact that things written by different prophets in the past as they were led by the Spirit of Christ revealed a suffering servant and subsequently glorified Lord. Those who wrote the prophecies inquired when the Saviour would come but it was not revealed to them. When Jacob blessed Dan he said I wait for your salvation, O LORD. The word salvation in the Hebrew is yshuwah (ישועה) from which the name Jesus comes. People in the Old Testament times were waiting for their promised Saviour, for salvation. The prophets were serving not themselves but us, the generation that have seen and heard that the Lord is good through the coming of the Son of God and His sacrifice on the cross, accepted by God as the perfect lamb of God, perfect in every way but slain for sinful man that we may be forgiven and brought into the Kingdom of God. The Good News preached to us by the same Holy Spirit that authored the prophecies originally. Prophecy fulfilled by the first coming of Christ include: born of a woman, son of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, from the tribe of Judah, heir to the throne of David, born in Bethlehem, born of a virgin, called from Egypt, working in Galilee, a prophet and a priest, rejected by his own, betrayed by a friend, silent when accused, beaten, insulted, and abused, hands and feet and side pierced, lots cast for his garments, burried in rich man’s tomb, resurrected and ascended into heaven. No other person in the history of man can claim to have fulfilled prophecy such as this. The angels look on and give God Almighty the praise and honour because of His longsuffering, His compassion, His abundant grace and His awesome plan of salvation for fallen man.
