An example in Love, Faith and Purity

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7

The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful- for he cannot deny himself. – 2 Timothy 2:11-13

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. – Philippians 4:11

It is interesting that the ESV stated we have a spirit of self control (as opposed to sound mind in the NKJV). Later Paul says to Timothy to endure and we will reign with him. It is our responsibility to act in a way that honours God. If we have died with him we will also live with him. If we deny him there are consequences – he will deny us. If we are faithless there are consequences. We are to set the believers and example not only on what we say and do but in love, faith and purity. Love because by this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.(John 13:35). In faith because without faith it is impossible to please him (Hebrews 11:6). Purity because blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8). By walking with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit we can be free from anxiety.

I’ve been mulling over how to ‘guard your heart, for out of it Spring the issues of life’. The verse that the Lord has given me is one you mention in this post ‘the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus’ – which ties in with ‘ the Lord has not given a sprint of fear but of power, love and a sound mind’. That’s my heart and my mind protected, then. Excellent! Amazing how He weaves it all together!
