Gems not Hidden

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. – 1 Peter 1:1-5

Peter was one of the apostles who was closest to the Lord. He walked with Jesus for over three years then his whole life was dedicated to preaching the gospel of grace. His epistles are packed with jewels, verses that carry so much weight, gems not hidden but lying there to be taken. In the five verses above we see: the foreknowdge of God; the sanctification of the spirit; the efficacy of the blood of Christ; grace and peace given to us; God’s great mercy towards us; our regeneration through being born again by the spirit of God; living hope through the resurrection; our wonderful inheritance; the power of God; being guarded by faith and our salvation to be revealed in the end time. Every one of these topics could be a message in themselves but what strikes me today is the whole message of salvation by grace through faith. The whole message of life being given to us by a loving God and the blessings He has poured our on us an undeserving people. The story of His grace towards us. Written by so many people in so many ways. But the same story. Super abundant grace given to us where sin abounds. The Word of God encouraging us to receive the full council of God by the power of His Spirit to fill our hearts with eternal gratitude and unending praise. As we meditate on all our God has done for us then we find our hearts established in His grace loving Him with all our being.
