Counted as Righteous
Romans 4:23-25
23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone,
24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord,
25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. – Romans 4:23-25
This is the most amazing promise. It is easy for us to think “well, Abraham was special, he had great faith, he was chosen” but the wonderful news is that , if we believe in the Son of God, we are counted as righteous. Jesus was killed on the cross and took the punishment we deserve but God raised Him from the dead giving us the hope of salvation, hope of eternal life with Him because we are counted as righteous. Jesus was raised from the dead to conquer death.
9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. – Romans 6:9-11
As God sees us as righteous then that should effect how we see ourselves. We have been counted as righteous. We are not destined to die. We do not have to fear death as an end to life but look forward to parting from this world to be with Jesus in the kingdom of heaven. God has given us life in Christ Jesus. God is the God of the living. You can not be in a relationship with a dead person.
But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. – Luke 20:37
He is the author and giver of life:
and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. – Acts 3:15
God wants us to be in a relationship with Him which is only possible if we are spiritually alive:
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- – Ephesians 2:4-5
God had placed us in Christ Jesus and those who are in Him are now counted as righteous. God sees things differently from us. He has eternal perspective and sees us now as we will be in eternity. He sees the butterfly in us not the caterpillar we are now. He sees us perfect in Him not the failures we see ourselves. We need to gain the eternal perspective and understand that by faith we are counted as righteous.
